15 Years of Faithful Ministry: Vast Grace Missions Story

Vast Grace Missions

From a small gathering in Wakiso District to 160 churches across Uganda and South Sudan — celebrate 15 years of God’s faithfulness through Vast Grace Missions.

In 2010, Henry Wynn Kakooza and his wife Karen Mirembe Kakooza planted a single church in Wakiso District, Uganda. They had no building, no budget, and no staff — only a calling from God and an unshakable conviction that the Gospel could transform lives and communities. Fifteen years later, that humble beginning has grown into Vast Grace Missions (VGM), a Christian NGO with 160 churches, 14 ministry programs, and a presence across Uganda and South Sudan. This is the story of God’s faithfulness.

The early years were marked by sacrifice and dependence on God. Henry and Karen worked tirelessly, often using their own resources to support the growing ministry. Church planting was slow and painstaking, requiring deep relationships with communities and patient investment in leaders. But with each new church, each salvation, and each transformed life, the vision grew clearer: God was calling VGM to reach the unreached and disciple one at a time.

As the ministry expanded, so did its scope. What began as a church planting ministry evolved into a holistic mission addressing spiritual, social, and economic needs. Education sponsorship programs were launched to keep children in school. The Children with Special Needs program was born out of Karen’s compassion for disabled children. Gold Youth Camps began reaching teenagers with the Gospel. Boreholes were drilled to provide clean water. A tailoring program empowered women with vocational skills. Each program emerged from a specific need encountered in the field, demonstrating VGM’s commitment to meeting people where they are.

Key milestones mark the journey: the establishment of the Christian Training Centre (CTC) to equip pastors, the distribution of over 15,000 Bibles to new believers, the drilling of 16 boreholes for clean water, the launch of the 5-acre coffee farm for financial sustainability, and the annual Gold Youth Camps that have reached hundreds of teenagers. Each milestone represents answered prayers and the generosity of partners who believed in the mission.

VGM’s impact as a charity in Uganda extends beyond numbers. The organization has become a trusted presence in the communities it serves, known for integrity, compassion, and a genuine love for people. Pastors trained through the CTC are leading thriving churches. Children sponsored through the education program are graduating from universities. Families with special needs children are finding hope and community. These stories of transformation are the true measure of VGM’s 15-year legacy.

As Vast Grace Missions looks ahead, the vision remains the same but the scope continues to expand. New churches are being planted in unreached areas. More boreholes are being planned. Gold Youth Camp 2026 aims to reach 1,000 teens. The coffee farm is maturing toward financial sustainability. And through it all, the commitment remains: to reach the unreached and disciple one at a time. Fifteen years of faithful ministry is a milestone worth celebrating — but it is also a springboard for even greater things to come. Join VGM in writing the next chapter of this extraordinary story.
